In a lifelong deal of writing, authors might stumble upon confusions that distract them from thinking effectively or wrench through the variations of experiences to put something down on paper; but, in ramifications, fail after some vehement trials which throw them into stagnation for shorter times. Don’t be disheartened! You are in writer’s block.

It happens with all of us. We start writing with enthusiasm but soon feel that crafting is monstrously insufficient or not up to the level to finish. It triggers disillusionment and compels us to give up. Following steps might be helpful to bring back the compact and solid piece of potential.

1.Note down all the words that are impatiently crowding into your mind and shaking your thoughts instantaneously. Now start playing with them by making as many sentences as you possibly can and see how successfully your whole heart is engaged in it.

2.Look around: colors, nature, birds, their each activity and try understanding their indications to extract something out of it. Put down in a notebook either in a form of a short story or poetry.

3.When nothing comes out of mind, be quite and try to listen the sharp sound of silence in your loneliness. Writer’s mind is free to go anywhere to collect pearls hidden in trivial things and come out with the most valuable thing they need.

4.To write something, let your mind be free to be inspired by anything, might be unimportant for common eyes: music or picture, pieces of gray clouds floating in the sky or neglected flowers on the ground. “perceive like common people but think like wise”

5.Since internet has evolved, it has become the most helpful guide to look up to. Post your each piece of writing and be ready for the opinions or criticisms from authors all over the world.

6.In our lifetime, we pass through many experiences which are of great value especially when nothing works out even after sprawling across the ideas; you need time away from the page to let your mind idle with fun.

Finally, what we need to realize is writer’s block isn’t curse for the talented; rather, it actually bridges the gap between the realm of the best and excellent. Diversion from writing is necessary for nurturing the productivity and exploration.

Hello everybody!

I have written a small essay and I’ll appreciate your comments and suggestions. It is in the response of the question Alex had asked me a while ago.

“Literature adds to reality, it doesn’t simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become” -C.S Lewis
Literature has always been considered as healing power for reducing the rushes of stresses we experience in our daily deal of life; it has also been considered as medicine to help the readers recover from any kind of trauma, and food for intellectual growth. Significant force and effect of literature has been seen more prominently in world wars by restoring courage and strength among people. It significantly assisted them to get rid of pain of losing near and dear ones.

From ancient time, literature has shown positive changes in children’s as well as adult’s lives. Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice and wonderland’, Charles Perrault’s ‘Cinderella’, ‘Sleeping beauty’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in 17th century, John Newbery’s ‘Little Pretty Pocket book in 18th century, Brothers Grimm’s ‘Snow White’ and L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ all were widely embraced by children as it not only offers them entering in the world of imagination but also assists them developing deeper understanding and critical thinking.

Oliver Twist, Treasure Island, The outsiders, Little Women, The Catcher In The Rye, The Jungle Book, Great Expectation, Are You There God?, Moonfleet, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, Harry potter and many more among young-adult literature were greatly acknowledged by young readers.
Judy Blume, J.K Rowling, Tim Bowler, S.E Hinton, J.D Salinger, Maureen McCarthy, Libby Gleeson, and Alan Baillie renowned authors who have influenced the world in an unavoidable way.
It helps children as well as adults to know the different parts of the world, cultures, and people in better way; it encourages them to perceive lives from different perspective by finding their real-life situation through the characters, their wishes, dreams and frustrations. Sometimes readers, while reading, receive some clues to solve their own problems from the characters. Literary technique (for example, humour, comedy or tragedy) throws them into diverse range of reality creating a perfect ground to react positively towards them. It fulfils their intellectual, social and emotional needs through challenging experiences.

Bombadil Publishing, a youth to youth publisher, is successfully heading and enriching this trends with vigilant thought and assessment by offering readers (young readers in particular) to venture for gems hidden their inside and let them sparkle across the globe. Bombadil Publishinghas actually made virtue of necessity. Young people, against the popular conservative belief that they destroy literature, have proved themselves to be highly instrumental to positive change. They are poised to contribute to literature and grateful to our ancestors who spent their lives thinking and writing.

Sincerely,
Mousumi from Bombadil, India

After enduring unquenchable blaze and violent hardihood of life in heat-scorching Delhi, some drops have restored the placidity of unquiet souls, flourished the yearning to drench in rain, and aspired the romantic hearts to unite. It seems soft gentlest pleasures are whispering around after redemption from cruelest and seductive Sun. Peaceful environment has settled on all creatures’ life. Rain has always played a prominent and recurrent role in the mighty pen of authors’ and poets’ rendering nobility of thoughts and majesty of life. I am no exception to it–a mysteriously daunting spirit of roasting heat of sun that handsomely sucked my humanly livelihood and left with barred heart, rain has refurbished once again my energetic soul to be enmeshed in freeing my long-suppressed feelings. Seeing all children are enjoying the shimmering drops adoringly rolling down their diminutive body, my dream and desire leapt up to catch the moments and frame them in mighty words. Extreme frequency of power cuts that snatched the serenity of Delhities, is overshadowed by the law of nature.

A young writer from El Salvador; Mario, emigrated to Canada several years ago, wehere he started a book of short stories, and when our young writer finished his book he was contacted by another young writer in Mexico, this young lady, Lauri, who told Mario about Bombadil Publishing. Mario sent the manuscript to our international office in Sweden, and I, Melvin the Latin-American Editor in Bombadil Publishing, sent Mario´s book to our mentor in Peru, Maggy, and Maggy will send back to us this book, this week, when she, in according with Mario, is finished reading the book as a mentor and as proofreading.

It’s amazing and amusing? Of course it is. The amazing thing is the flying Mario´s book took, I mean, flying from El Salvador to Canada in Mario´s mind and the book flew to Mexico to Lauri, and our book continued to travel and flew to Sweden and then to Peru, then back to Sweden again, there is an amazing flying. It was amusing that our mentor, Maggy in Peru, doesn’t understand so of the book much because Mario wrote in the special way people from El Salvador use to speak Spanish. And I was laughing because I am from El Salvador and I totally understood what Mario wrote. I told Mario that we needed to change the language a little to express the book in an international Spanish, again that was funny and amusing because we people from El Salvador speak a special Spanish, but at the same time we speak “real” Spanish too, and Mario and my self smiled, we smiled a Bombadil’s smile, a global smile, as many young writers around the world, whom are writing at this very moment a Bombadil book. We in Bombadil Publishing are flying and flying around the world. Would you like fly with us?

Today, intellectually, youth are more mature than their age, no doubt. The impact of internet is palpable on their broader vision. What amazes me is that they take criticism positively and are quite flexible for desired changes. As far as the above mentioned question is concerned, my humble advice would be:

Writing remains a raw material or rough elements – a conglomeration of lifeless words or phrases until a writer, through aesthetic voice, pours ‘soul’ into it. It is the craftsmanship to create a real world where readers can walk through and experience the events as if they were real.

Some technical aspects such as precise planning, style or language, knowledge and clear vision of the subject are the basic instruments for further succession of proceeding rationally and logically. In order to become a good writer, one needs to keep their senses active and observe each moment and event they come across. It helps accumulate basic ingredients and then a writer polishes them with their best possible skills.

There is no short cut and no time limit for making a good writer. It has to be practiced on a regular basis. Reading books written by some famous writers, discussing your writing with friends, family members, and receiving expert advice from mentors will certainly help a lot.

At the end, I’d like to remember a famous quote of Richard Wright, “I would hurl words into this darkness and wait for an echo, and if an echo sounded, no matter how faintly, I would send other words to tell, to march, to fight, to create a sense of hunger for life that gnaws in us all.”

IN the 1950s, Soho was a part of London much frequented by writers and painters. Its restaurants were good and cheap and its pubs overpopulated. Dean Street could have been described as the centre, and in Dean Street was a pub officially called the Yorkminster. Its unofficial name was the French Pub, for its owner was French. Gaston Berlemont looked exactly like Hercule Poirot and capitalised on the resemblance. He gave impecunious artists credit, not always willingly. Above the teeming, noisy, and bohemian bar was a restaurant that served excellent French food. This restaurant was where I first met V.S. Naipaul.

At that time I had a friend called Francis Wyndham, a literary critic and an editor with the publishing firm of Andre Deutsch. He kept telling me about a very promising young author from Trinidad and saying I should meet him. I had read and liked Naipaul’s first two books, but I did not see why I should meet a writer simply because I liked his work. After all I was a writer too. Francis coyly said that his author and I had many things in common. I wanted to know what.

“I don’t write novels,” I said. “He doesn’t write poetry.”

“He was at Oxford a couple of years before you.” Francis said.

“That,” I said, “is ridiculous. Why should I waste this poor man’s time because he was at Oxford a couple of years before me?”

“It’s strange,” Francis replied. “Vidia said exactly the same about you when I mentioned this to him. You see, you two do have a lot in common.”

Finally he arranged lunch at the French pub. I liked Naipaul very much as a person. He was very shy — so was I — and as I had told Francis we had nothing whatsoever in common.

Over lunch, we talked about books we had read. I have forgotten what they were. Later I mentioned the matter to a friend, who knew Francis and laughed.

“Don’t you know what Vidia Naipaul and you have in common,” he inquired.

“Francis may have been too polite to say so, but you both have brown skins. He may think he was the only White friend either of you had, and that you should keep each other company in this English wilderness.”

That was the first time I ever met Naipaul. Later, when he wrote An Area of Darkness, I reviewed it. I thought it was a wonderful book. After this we had lunch together once or twice. Over the long years since then, we have had occasional, but always friendly, meetings in one place or another. He is a very wise and witty man, when he allows himself to be. I, therefore, rather wish that our last meeting hadn’t been at a recent literary conference that started in Delhi and went on to the famous heritage hotel built out of the old fort of Neemrana.

Apart from the hazards of precipitous steps, not meant for people like me who suffer from vertigo, it was a beautiful place, in which 60-odd writers uneasily allowed themselves to relax and face one another. On our first day there, a poetry reading took place. I read some poems and Naipaul congratulated me on them. I felt pleased about this. He had become different in his appearance and now looked like a famous writer as well as being one. He had also acquired what most famous writers do, an entourage, which constantly hovered around him.

That evening we had dinner in a garden, and were sitting about at various tables afterwards. Some distance away from where we were, I noticed mild confusion. Soon after this another guest came up and said, “Sir Vidia has had the most frightful fight with the American Ambassador’s wife. Each of them ordered the other to leave the party. I don’t know who won.”

A few moments later Naipaul stamped crossly up steep steps to our table, sat down, and said, “The Americans are giving a reception for us tomorrow night. All of you are my friends, and none of you will attend it.” A prolonged and confused silence fell upon us all.

At this point another friend of mine arrived, led up to the table by his wife Lin. This was Ved Mehta, who cannot see. In the uncertain light, she did not notice Naipaul or inform Ved that he was among those present. This was unfortunate, since he, addressing us all, inquired in a concerned fashion, “Do you think Naipaul has become a megalomaniac?”

The English writer David Pryce-Jones, who was with Ved and me at university, leant over and whispered, “Careful, Ved! Careful!”

Ved replied, “Why should I be careful, David? I honestly think there’s something wrong with him.” Sir Vidia rose and walked away.

Next day, like Achilles, he sulked in his tent, or bedroom, demanding that the Ambassador’s wife should send him a written apology. Author after author went up to plead with him before he rejoined the conference.

He was not present at the American party. The rest of us went. A great change had taken place in the shy young writer I first met in the French pub. Change isn’t always for the better.

Bombadil Publishing, a bright new light in a traditional world, is a youth‐to‐youth publisher, publishing the stories and delivering the messages that young people choose to read.
The success of Bombadil Publishing clearly shows that young people read more than ever and want to have a greater say in and influence over what they read. And it is their say, their dreams and their thoughts that sell books and with a presence in 82 countries, the Bombadilians have firmly established Bombadil Publishing on the global market.

Armed with a new freedom of expression, there seems to be no stopping the young authors and readers; they have created new avenues for marketing, new ways of getting their dreams heard, and have now been instrumental in getting Bombadil Publishing to release a new social network for youth authorship.

The beta version of the social network was released on May 4, and although Bombadil Publishing is about youth publishing, the social network is open to people of all ages, the reason being that a social network is about communicating, about enjoying books and literature but perhaps most
of all about sharing dreams and interests, all of which should not be age related.
The release of the new social network has been welcomed by Bombadil Publishing’s over 6000 young Bombadilians working on their books under the auspices of hard working and inspiring mentors in the Bombadil team. What binds together these talented authors in 82 counties are a strong ideology, a wish to have a voice and an amazing collective and individual creative ability to inspire and be inspired, to write and to be read.

By providing a global outlet for young people who want to read and write new and, for them, relevant books, Bombadil Publishing allows young people to retain their identity and individualistic approach to life while interacting with and growing from one of the world’s oldest and most traditional industries.

Having an own social network for authors gives a further slant to Bombadil’s leading edge in youth publishing giving the members the possibility to interact in shaping the future of books, a future that is bright and beautiful, full of fresh energy and new opportunities.
Youth‐2‐Youth publishing – inspiring dreams

“Without books the development of civilization would have been impossible. They are the engines of change, windows on the world, ”Lighthouses” as the poet said ”erected in the sea of time.” They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind, Books are humanity in print.” (Arthur Schopenhauer)

Literature is, to a great extent, responsible for developing major parts of human civilization including persistently shaping up the concerning areas of civilization, justices as well as political system. Literature is the onliest greatest testimony of human existence that showed indispensable human emotions through joy, sorrow, tragedy etc, introduced various cultures all over the world, constructed the foundation for potential future growth of a nation.
Literature has questioned on some prominent beliefs, unfolded the bitter truth of life that had been kept secret from human knowledge, exposed the troubled life in certain areas unknown to the outer world and initiated human being to judge, analyze and understand the deeply rooted meaning of related areas and eliminated them from the root.

Youth, the most potent instrument, dynamic force, and the future treasure of a nation, hold the power that brings significant changes in society. In natural sense, literature helps them nurture their own thoughts mixed up with extracted necessary ones from multiple authors that encourage them to contribute their part to the nation by brining crucial changes. Some books in recent times which have revolutionized the knowledge from various directions are Arvind Adiga’s “The white tiger” where problematic areas are highlighted, Shiv Khera’s “you can win” where motivation is the main focus through great real heroic stories that inspire youth to keep motivated and transfer the stumbling blocks into steeping stones, Robin Sharma’s “A monk who sold his Ferrari” where it has been suggested to keep life as simple as possible in this complex world. Different books have different purposes but the commonest is to keep youth abreast with contemporary world and help them find their roles.

World Book and Copyright Day will be observed on April 23 to pay a worldwide tribute to books and authors, encouraging people to discover the pleasure of reading.

Different literary organisations will arrange activities to promote book reading culture and remember those who have made irreplaceable contributions to social and cultural progress.

April 23 marks the anniversary of the birth or death of a range of well-known writers, including Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Maurice Druon, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Haldor Kiljan Laxness, Manuel Mej!a Vallejo, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and William Shakespeare.

The day is remembered to pay tribute to books, the authors who wrote them and the copyright laws that protect them.

The World Book and Copyright Day increase people’s understanding of and adherence to copyright laws and other measures to protect intellectual copyright.

“The book reading habit should be developed at the early age which will not only enhance the creative skills of children but also help in character building,” said Khalil-ur-Rehman, a professor of a local college.

Each year the World celebrates World Book and Copyright Day on April 23. This day, formalized by a resolution adopted in 1995 by the 28th session on the General Conference of Unesco, seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. IPA is one of the main partners in this international celebration of books, authors, and copyright.

Bombadil Publishing was founded in the autumn of 2007 as a youth to youth publishing house. This new concept invites youngsters to write for their own peer group, expressing their ideas, stories and visions in a clear, professional manner. There are no editors, but mentors and life coaches who guide the authors through the world of publishing; authors and mentors work in symbiosis and are involved in the entire process together. At Bombadil Publishing a book is only a true representation of the author’s inner thoughts, ideas and passions if the authors are able to express themselves without shackles or censorship.
During the past year, Bombadil Publishing, named after the adventurous and independent Lord of the Ring character, Tom Bombadil, has started a revolution in publishing, and given a voice to so many young people around the world. In fact Bombadil now has authors on all continents, and new countries and areas are added at a very fast rate. The reason behind this expansion seems to be the wish of the young Bombadilians to unite across borders, sharing their love and passion for books and the written word; since they are dynamic youngsters who really want to involve and share what they believe in, Bombadil has evolved from being just a publisher to becoming a lifestyle.
Lifestyle is important as it reflects a philosophy, which penetrates deep into the inner fabrics of the person. A lifestyle is subscribed to, not bought. All authors get paid royalties and all authors retain copyright to their work, as fairness is part of the lifestyle to which Bombadil subscribes ‐ fairness and equality regardless of colour, creed or social standing. Issues, thoughts and ideas are discussed and spread, not to belittle but to empower. Confident youngsters should stand tall side by side their confident peers giving a more equal and peaceful world. Such confidence is spread because young people are heard through their written words.
All manuscript and book ideas are welcome at Bombadil, and the traditional division into genres and groups has been taken away. Saying that, a book is still assigned a genre once it is published, though sometimes such genres are not the traditional ones, and new ones evolve. There is for example Fairasy, a mix between fantasy and fairy tales, aimed particularly at readers between 12 and 15. Fairasy is a bit softer and a bit kinder, doing away with some of the blood gushing of traditional Fantasy and the naivety of frog kissing princesses of fairy tales.
Another new genre is Challenge Poetry, which opens up a new straightforward poetic pathos in a refreshing and honest disposition. Both of these genres are the inventions of Bombadilian authors. They wanted to express themselves, and focused more on the idea than the potential boxes into which these ideas could fit. So they broke the boundaries and were heard – their way. They wanted to be free and became free with Bombadil.
Freedom is expressed in many ways, and an important cornerstone of Bombadil Publishing is the idiosyncratic need for freedom of speech without which there cannot be democracy. True democracy is based on the ability to make informed choices, but if freedom of speech is not exercised because knowledge and information is censored, there cannot be true democracy. Many young people are today not able or even allowed to form an educated opinion about the world into which they are about to enter as freeliving, influential members of society, and their voices are not heard. Many young people write with a zest for life and a passion for the world they live in, and it is Bombadil’s mission to allow this passion to echo throughout the world. Perhaps when all young people are united through their passion, a new and open world will emerge where there is democracy, individual integrity and respect for the world and its people at large. One voice will be heard, and many voices will make each of those louder!
Bombadil Publishing is incorporated in both the United Kingdom and in Sweden and publishes books mainly English and Swedish, though many more languages are being added. The management is in Nora, a small town in central southern Sweden, amongst great lakes, birch forests and majestic elks. All books maintain a high quality and are printed in Sweden. To compensate on the effect publishing has on forests, a tree is planted for each title published.
